Pitru Paksha 2026
Remembering Those Who Came Before Us
September 27 to October 10, 2026
© Vedic BlessingsPhoto 20From Sunday, September 27 through Saturday, October 10, 2026, we observe Pitru Paksha, the sacred Vedic fortnight dedicated to remembering those who are no longer physically present with us.
The word Pitru refers to our ancestors and forefathers, those whose lives, sacrifices, and values helped shape our families. During this period, we may also lovingly remember departed friends, teachers, spiritual guides, and others who touched our lives.
Vedic tradition offers a distinctive and deeply structured way to honor the ancestral lineage with reverence. Through prayer, tarpan, shraddha, charitable giving, and feeding others, remembrance becomes a sacred expression of gratitude connecting one generation with another.
Pitru Paksha is not a festival of outward celebration. It is a quiet period of reflection and remembrance, a meaningful pause in modern life to preserve what was valuable and gently release unresolved sorrow.
The appropriate day for ancestral rites is traditionally connected with the lunar date of the departed person's passing. When that date is unknown, Sarva Pitru Amavasya on October 10 is observed in remembrance of all departed ancestors.
At Vedic Blessings, traditional tarpan, shraddha, and Vedic prayers may be arranged in Varanasi for those you wish to remember. After the observance, a few photographs and short video clips are shared with the family.

May the memories and blessings of those who came before us bring peace, strength, and harmony to our lives.
