Vedic Way of Life
Daily Practice
The Vedic way is lived one day at a time. Small habits, done regularly, bring calm and strength. You can start with just one of these.
Wake early
The time before sunrise is called Brahma Muhurta, about an hour and a half before dawn. It is quiet and fresh, and is considered the best time for prayer, study and meditation.
Morning prayer
Traditionally, prayers called Sandhya are said at sunrise, noon and sunset, the three meeting points of the day. Even a few minutes of prayer or silence in the morning sets a calm tone for the whole day.
Thankful eating
Food is treated with respect. Before eating, give thanks. Eat fresh, simple food, and do not waste it.
Five daily offerings
The Vedic tradition speaks of five small daily duties: to learning (reading something that uplifts you), to the divine (prayer), to your ancestors (remembering them with gratitude), to all living beings (feeding an animal or bird), and to other people (kindness and hospitality). Each takes only a moment.
A simple start for busy lives
Wake a little earlier. Sit quietly for five minutes. Say a short prayer or mantra. Eat with gratitude. Do one kind thing for someone. This is already the Vedic way.
